BattleBots Season 4

11/5/01

Monday, a beautiful day with clear skies and temperatures in the 60's. Don't need to go to the island today since I already passed my safety inspection. Slept in (8am, which is10am home time). Found the computer a 'business' room off the lobby, so I was able to check my e-mail, and I noticed the hub was out in the open, with two open ports, so I could plug my laptop in to upload the website changes. Smookin! Once I got that done, I decided to go walkabout.

Headed toward Oakland this time, and came across a store called Ikea. You can't really call it a store. It's the size of several football fields, and has EVERYTHING you can possibly imaging related to home goods. I went in just to take a look, and became immediately lost. It's like a labyrinth designed to make you walk past every item in the store before you can get out. I tried to find my way to the exit by cutting through different sections, but eventually gave up and followed the arrows on the floor, which took me through the entire store, and finally to the checkouts and exit. One of the pictures below is from the outside, and though it's hard to make out, the store does go the entire length of the picture (I'd guess 900ft), it's  about 200ft wide, and two stories tall (must be about 6 football fields).

Continued walking toward where I heard their was a shopping center that had a K-mart, Home Depot, etc. Eventually got there, but couldn't find the K-mart (was hoping to get a cooler). Took the pictures of the colorful houses you see below.

Walked back and stopped at the Public Market I mentioned yesterday. God, the smell of this place is incredible. Their is so much to choose from, it's very difficult to decide. I ended up having a chicken kabob, which included some very delicious orange colored chicken, and rice with lentils on it. Not bad at all.

Stopped back at the hotel, my feet killing me (that'll teach me to wear steel toe work boots on a multi-mile hike).

Here's the pictures:
