BattleBots Season 4
11/11/01
Sunday, last day of the competition. Semi-finals,
finals, and rumbles today. They bolted some new Lexan over the two panels that
were damaged yesterday. Their are a number of familiar bots fighting today, as
well as a few new ones. During the heavy-weight rumble one of the bots with a
gas powered spinner was stuck on top of another bot near the Lexan. A camera man
was right up by the Lexan filming it (I was about 6 rows up directly behind him)
when the bot was hit from behind and pushed into the Lexan, resulting in a
violent impact. The camera man quickly jumped back, set down the camera, and
walked away in shock. The spinner cut a gash through both layers of the Lexan. I
was told that the people in the front row got sprayed with a mist of molten
Lexan. They again duct-tapped a piece of Lexan over the gash and continued with
the fight.
Got back to the hotel, and again had drinks with
the largest number of builders yet. Derek Young, Cristian Carlberg, Fuzzy
Moulden, the
El-Diablo team, Team Half-Life, and many others crowded the small lounge bar
until early into the morning. One of the builders brought the nut they had won.
Very cool. It's made of aluminum, probably about 10" across the flats, and
is really tapped. The particular person that brought this one said he will
probably create a bolt that will thread into the nut, just for fun. More
ant-weight fights as well.
