Working with wood, carving, and building functional,
one-of-a-kind items has been my creative outlet for the past 30 years.
“A unique and natural furniture item in your home can only enhance
your comfort, and provide a connection to nature.”
“My most recent work, Beaver Chew Furniture,
is a collaboration between the beaver and me, along with some design input
from my wife Martha.” Beaver
Chew Furniture is made from the sticks left behind after the beaver has
eaten the leaves and bark.
“Many works actually begin in the canoe in some
remote area of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
As I collect the sticks, I am visualizing how they will create my
next piece.”

Our
furniture is made from the wood the beaver leaves when he has finished chewing
the bark and leaves off. The beaver
leaves a variety of woods, typically aspen, poplar, beech, birch, white pine
and maple. We collect the wood on
lakes and rivers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The beaver is our major collaborator and source of material.
He/she determines the shape and texture of each stick.
The tabletop material is circular cut white pine from a local sawmill.
All of the furniture is
finished with a modified waterborne urethane and can be cleaned the same as any fine
furniture. The wood is the natural color and has no stain applied.
